Insitutional Innovation Council


In 2022, GMRIT established and launched the Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) program as per the norms of the Innovation Cell, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India to systematically nurture a culture of innovation and foster a startup ecosystem within the institution. The MHRD established MHRD’s Innovation Cell (MIC) to systematically foster the culture of innovation amongst all higher education institutions (HEIs) in India. The primary mandate of MIC is to encourage, inspire and nurture young students to think of new ideas, concepts, and develop working prototypes.

The primary goal of the GMRIT IIC is to engage a large number of faculty, students, and staff in various activities related to innovation and entrepreneurship. These activities include ideation, problem-solving, proof of concept development, design thinking, intellectual property rights (IPR), and project management at the pre-incubation and incubation stages. This initiative aims to establish and strengthen the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem at GMRIT.

Objectives of GMRIT IIC:

To promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among faculty, students, and staff.

To facilitate the development of innovative ideas into viable solutions and prototypes.

To create awareness about intellectual property rights (IPR) and encourage the protection of innovations.

To provide a platform for students and faculty to engage with entrepreneurs, investors, and industry experts.

To organize and support activities like hackathons, workshops, and competitions to stimulate creative thinking and problem-solving.

To establish collaboration with national and international innovation networks, fostering partnerships for growth and development.

To ensure continuous engagement with the startup ecosystem and enhance the institution’s innovation capabilities.

To prepare the institution for ranking under the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA).


Functions of GMRIT IIC:

Organize and execute various innovation, IPR, and entrepreneurship-related activities as prescribed by the MIC within set timelines.

Identify and recognize innovative projects, sharing success stories to inspire others.

Conduct regular workshops, seminars, and interactions with entrepreneurs, investors, and professionals, while building a network of mentors for student innovators.

Foster connections with peers and national organizations focused on entrepreneurship development.

Develop an Innovation Portal to showcase the innovative projects undertaken by the institution’s faculty and students.

Host hackathons, idea competitions, mini-challenges, and other events involving industry participation.
